One of the offseason’s lingering questions has been the possibility of the Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones being traded out of Atlanta. This saga between Jones and the Falcons has been buried all offseason due to another conflict between the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers. However, the Jones and Falcons controversy got reignited this past one week ago when Shannon Sharpe called Julio on his Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed. Now seems like the perfect time, with June 1 approaching tomorrow, to explore the possibilities for potential trading partners for the Falcons.
New England Patriots
We will start off with the team making the most offseason moves this year after having a disappointing season last year, finishing with a record of 7-9 and missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2008 season.
The reason the Patriots might be the best fit for Jones is that Jones beyond being the number 1 option for Cam Newton. but the reason this is appealing is that the team is guaranteed to have Julio Jones for the 2021 and the 2022 season and an option in 2023.
Perhaps, suppose the Patriots let go of Newton after this season. In that case, the Patriots have their future quarterbacks in either Jarrett Stidham or Mac Jones. For these young quarterbacks, it will be great for their development to have a two-time first-team all-pro as a first target.
In a second move that could work, the Titans would have to rework some contracts to accommodate Jones in Nashville. The benefit for the Titans is it would give them an option to make the offense more dynamic beyond Derrick Henry and the run game.
The Titans enter the 2021 season without a standout wide receiver, so bringing Julio Jones into Nashville will be a huge benefit for a team that can potentially make a run at a divisional title with Jones the best target for Ryan Tannehill beyond A.J. Brown.
Another great fit for Julio Jones would be joining the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens this offseason have made a huge addition at the wide receiver core in adding Sammy Watkins to the team. If Jones were to be traded to Baltimore, he would join a team with Super Bowl aspirations the past few years but has come up short in the playoffs.
This trade can benefit both parties as the Ravens will have someone in Jones who can help their receiving core, and Jones might be able to win the Super Bowl.
It will be interesting to see if the Falcons decide to trade Jones before tomorrow, or will it be a move that will be done in the regular season at the trade deadline.
