Is It Time For The Packers to Move On From Aaron Rodgers?

The biggest story of the NFL Offseason has been the drama between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The drama became public when ESPN’s Adam Schefter released a tweet four hours before the draft, which brought the whole situation to light.

The Draft night situation between Rodgers and the Packers was the story as in 2020. The story was the Packers drafting Jordan Love. After last years draft, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke about drafting Love with Rodgers still being on the roster,

“He’s obviously been through this, and he’s a pro, and I think it’s something that’s a long-term decision. I think that when you go through kind of the way things went tonight, you weigh the short-term and the long-term and the way the board went, this was just the best decision for the Packers. Obviously, Aaron has been around a long time, and he knows what we’re playing for right now, so that’s what’s most important right now.”

However, for the rest of the offseason and throughout the season, the Packers’ situation was not a storyline. Though at the end of the Packers season after the NFC Championship game loss to the Buccaneers, the controversy seemed to start as soon as the final whistle blew. In his postgame news conference, Rodgers admitted about the future of the team,

“A lot of guys’ futures are uncertain—myself included”

After Rodgers gave his statement, general manager Brian Gutekunst released his statement detailing Rodgers future with the team,

“Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team.”

Though the statement from Gutekunst seemed optimistic, however, now the drama between Rodgers and the organization has gotten to an all-time high. Since the draft night in April, there have not been many statements from both sides. However, in an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Aaron Rodgers did address his trade speculation,

“A lot this was put in motion last year. The wrench was just kind of throw into it when I won MVP and played the way I played last year. This is just kind of the spill out of all that. But, look, it’s about the people and that’s the most important thing. Green Bay has always been about the people.”

So, as June 8 is here, the mandatory report day for camp and reports today, Rodgers is not present. Is it time for the Packers to move forward with Love? Let us be honest at this point; it seems no party is willing to come to an agreement. Now is the time for the Packers to determine where they want to go at the quarterback position.

The first option is going to be to meet Aaron Rodgers agreement wherever he wants to get. Unfortunately, the second option and the one that is, unfortunately, will have to happen if no agreement is reached before the season will have to be a trade. The benefit of this hypothetical trade will be a first-round pick, so there will be some benefit in the deal.

Well, until there is some form of an agreement on the future, Rodgers and the Packers will be the story, and eventually, a decision will have to be made.
