USA Basketball Announces Olympic Roster

USA Basketball announced Monday the Men’s Basketball Roster for the 2020 Olympics, which starts July 23rd. The team is led by star Brooklyn Nets Forward Kevin Durant who is on his third Olympic Team. Also, joining Durant in Tokyo is an eclectic range of NBA Talent.

The Roster for Team USA is Bam Adebayo, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Jerami Grant, Draymond Green, Jrue Holiday, Zach LaVine, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Khris Middleton, and Jayson Tatum.

The coach for Team USA will be San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. The Tokyo Olympics will be Popovich’s first time leading Team USA. However, this will be his second Olympics after serving as an assistant in the 2004 games. Popovich assistants coaches are Lloyd Pierce and Villanova’s Jay Wright. This will be Pierce’s first time coaching the team. This will also be Wright’s first time coaching Team USA at the Olympics. However, Wright has coached Team USA in a variety of international competitions but not the Olympic games.

Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich released the following statement after the unveiling of the roster,

“I’m happy for the selected players and looking forward to having the opportunity to work with this wonderful group when practice gets underway on July 6 in Las Vegas,”

Team USA Exhibition Schedule

During Team USA’s time in Las Vegas, they will play five exhibition matches before making the trip to Japan. The first match will be Nigeria, scheduled for July 10, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00. Then two days later, on July 12th, Team USA will play Australia, beginning at 8:00, and the two teams will play again July 16th with tip-off at 6:00. The next night the United States will play Argentina with tip-off scheduled for 6:00. The final exhibition match will be on July 18th, when the United States will play Spain with tip-off at 9:00.

The five exhibition matches prepare Team USA for its Olympic opener when it takes on France on July 25th, as the United States is on the quest for their fourth straight gold medal.
