The excitement is palpable. The Seattle Kraken will get their shot to begin building their team on Wednesday during the expansion draft. We have been given a preview into the fevered pitch of Seattle in welcoming its newest athletes.
An impressive group of current and former Seattle greats has been revealed as announcers of the player selections. Among those athletes are Seattle Storm guard and current Olympian Sue Bird, former Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and current linebacker Bobby Wagner, Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis, Seattle Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris, and former Seattle SuperSonics members Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, as well as their Hall of Fame coach Lenny Wilkens.
Kraken will immediately become part of Seattle
Many of Seattle’s iconic sites will be used as locations during the broadcast on ESPN2, at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday. The Seattle Aquarium, Mount Rainier, the Space Needle, and Pike Place Market will all be backdrops used to welcome the first 30 members of the Kraken.
There are several opportunities for Kraken fans to show their enthusiasm. There will be a gathering of fans in decorated boats on Puget Sound. Fans will be in attendance at Gas Works Park, which is located on the Sound. Many of the celebrities will be appearing at the park throughout the festivities. A barge will be employed as the main broadcast booth for the expansion draft. This will incorporate the fans both in the park and on their boats.
Kraken brass on hand
Jerry Bruckheimer, Kraken owner and Hollywood producer, will be attending. Kraken scout and women’s hockey legend Cammi Granato and intersectionality consultant Chanel Keenan will also be on hand. Also, Members of Western Washington Female Hockey and the Anchorage Hockey Academy are also expected.
Steve Mayer, the NHL’s chief content officer, remarked about his executive production of the draft and of assembling the stars for Wednesday night. “They’re all so into the Kraken. This was the easiest thing to book. The Kraken are the talk of the town right now,” said Mayer.
