Milwaukee Brewers all-star outfielder Christian Yelich has tested positive for the Coronavirus. Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns walked reporters through the exact timeline of Yelich’s diagnosis,
“[Yelich] has taken precautions seriously and guidelines seriously through the season, and unfortunately yesterday he started developing some mild symptoms. “He did the right thing and reported those mild symptoms. We got him a test yesterday afternoon and the test returned positive. We got him a confirmation test which also came back positive.”David Stearns Brewers president of baseball operations
The good news as of now for the Brewers is that no other players have a positive test at the moment. Stearns cites the work of the Brewers medical staff in keeping the team healthy,
“We’re doing everything we can to keep our group healthy and safe. As with everything in the world right now, we’re never going to be 100 percent sure. But I do think our group has taken this seriously from the beginning, and our medical staff has done a phenomenal job keeping everyone safe.”David Stearns Brewers president of baseball operations
The Yelich diagnosis did change the Brewers’ plans for the week. Due to Yelich not feeling well, the team did postpone their original flight to Pittsburgh yesterday. However, the Brewers have arrived in Pittsburgh prior to the start of their series with the Pirates, which begins tonight at 7.
What Losing Christian Yelich Means For The Brewers
Christian Yelich and his COVID positive diagnosis continues a problematic year for the Brewers on the health front. So, far throughout the year, the Brewers have been consistently banged up with players on the Injured List. But the Brewers have had a successful year up to this point leading the NL Central with a seven-game lead over the Reds. Though losing a player at any time is significant, the Brewers have been able to manage and are in prime contention for the two seed in the National League.
