The newest big name to move teams is All-Star outfielder Starling Marte. The Oakland Athletics were able to scoop up one of the biggest names from the Miami Marlins.
Starling Marte spent the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates before splitting the 2020 season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Marlins.
The Athletics were very much in need of a third really good outfielder. Mark Canha and Ramon Laureano are both playing solid defense and hitting very well. Canha and Laureano are hitting .255 and .248 respectively. Unfortunately their two other outfielders Seth Brown and Stephen Piscotty are only hitting .199 and .201.
Marte is one of the best at the plate this season. He only has seven homers and 25 RBI’s but is hitting .306 which along with his 32 walks means he gets on base a lot. He also has 22 steals making him a speed threat.
The Athletics are in the hunt for the second straight American League West title. Marte will be a great addition because he is no stranger to the playoffs. He was there three straight years with the Pirates in 2013-2015 and most recently in 2020 with the Marlins.
Marte could be the spark that this team has needed to get the going and get them back to the playoffs.
