The Dodgers are always making moves to get some of the biggest names in baseball. They made the biggest splash before the trade deadline by acquiring Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals.
Scherzer has been a top five pitcher in basically every major pitching category for the past decade. Prior to the shortened 2020 season he had 10 straight seasons with 10 or more wins. Seven of those seasons were 16 or more.
From 2013-2019 he was in the top five in Cy Young voting. He came out on top three times including back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.
So far this season he is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA and 142 strikeouts. He is better than his career averages in a lot of categories including ERA, hits allowed, runs allowed and walks.
Trea Turner is one of the most reliable players both in the field and at the plate. His offensive numbers throughout his career are astounding, but this season has been extremely special.
This season in 388 at bats he is hitting .322 with 125 hits, 18 homers, 49 RBI’s and 21 stolen bases. Several of his stats are in the top five in all of baseball. He has the second most hits in all of baseball and he is fourth best in stolen bases and batting average.
His overall career statistics are off the charts. Per season he averages a .300 batting average, 196 hits, 34 doubles, 29 homers, 78 RBI’s and 49 stolen bases. He has the ability to get on base at an incredible rate and when he does he is a serious speed threat.
The Dodgers never have a shortage of incredible players, that is what comes with having one of the largest salaries in baseball. Each season they find ways to add onto their already superb roster.
Scherzer will give the Dodgers one of the most incredible pitching staffs in all of baseball. He joins ace Walker Buehler as well as Julio Urias, David Price and Klayton Kershaw.
Turner adds to the insane infield of Chris Taylor, Max Muncy, Justin Turner and Albert Pujols. They also have Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger who play the infield. It is a crowded situation but they are happy to have to make these decisions.
This team sits only three games behind first place in the National League West despite having a 62-42 record. They have the third best record in all of baseball, but are behind the team with the best: the San Fransisco Giants.
By adding Scherzer and Turner it is almost a guarantee that the Dodgers will win the division. They are also looking to go back to the World Series for the fourth time in five years and these two will be major factors.
