The Chicago Cubs are emptying house and the New York Mets were able to benefit from this. Javier Baez is one of the most exciting players in all of baseball and is taking his flashy style to the Big Apple.
When people talk about letting the kids play and showing emotion, Javier Baez is a big reason for this. He always has a flare for the dramatic whether it be hits in big moments or incredible plays on the infield.
Baez has been a huge factor in the Cubs success since he came up in 2014. Once he got a lot of playing time in 2016 he became one of the faces of baseball.
His career averages at the plate are not as gaudy as some, but he has proved to be extremely reliable and consistent. He averages 150 hits, 30 doubles, 28 homers, 88 RBI’s and a .262 batting average per season. His best season was 2018 where he had 176 hits, a .290 batting average and led the National League in 111 RBI’s (26 more than his next best season).
In 2021 he is struggling to the point where he leads the NL in strikeouts (131), but overall he is still as good as ever. He has 83 hits, 22 homers, and a .248 batting average.
Mets Making Moves
The Mets are in one of the worst divisions in baseball, the National League East, which is the only reason they are in first place. They are only at 54-47 which would put them in second or third place in most other divisions.
They have not been as spectacular as most would have predicted. Their big hitters like Pete Alonso, Fransisco Lindor and Michael Conforto have not been putting up numbers like in previous seasons. Their pitching has also been subpar for those not named Jacob deGrom.
Despite the struggles of the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies they are still battling to try to take down the Mets. This trade will hopefully strengthen their offense and defense to the point that will win them the division.
This team is completely expecting to win the division and head to the playoffs. With Javier Baez’s playoff experience and flare he will be a key piece once October rolls around.
