The White Sox are one of the scariest teams in baseball and with their latest transaction they became even scarier. They were able to trade for Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago Cubs, one of the top relievers on the market.
Craig Kimbrel has been around the MLB for 12 years with the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. He has been in all sorts of big positions and it is no question why he is so sought after.
He averages a 2.07 ERA, 41 saves and 108 strikeouts per season. Prior to the 2019 season he had six seasons with an ERA under 2.10. Four of those seasons he led the NL in saves.
When he came to the Cubs in 2019 his ERA skyrocketed and it did not get much better in 2020, but 2021 has been a different story. He has a 0.49 ERA with 23 saves and 64 strikeouts. Although the Cubs have struggled he has come into close games and been almost perfect.
Scary White Sox
The White Sox are running away with the American League Central. They have a 60-43 record and are eight games over the second place Cleveland Indians. They have been able do dominate because of their powerful offense and shutdown pitching.
Their starting rotation is easily the best in the American League with Carlos Rodon, Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito. Once they get into their bullpen they get even tougher. Kimbrel will be joining current closer Liam Hendriks (2.58 ERA) as well set up man Michael Kopech (1.52 ERA).
Barring an insane collapse they will have no problem securing the AL Central once again. With another spectacular arm out of the bullpen they could be favorites to win the AL Pennant and get to the World Series.
The White Sox are urgently trying to make a statement and with Craig Kimbrel’s experience he is the perfect fit for this team.
