Milwaukee Brewers star starting pitcher Corbin Burnes added to his Cy Young caliber season by setting franchise and league records with a performance highlighted by strikeouts.

On Wednesday night the Brewers took on the Chicago Cubs for game three of the series. This game came a day after a double header where the Brewers saw seven pitchers take the mound in game two. The Crew sent out Burnes in hopes he would give them some much needed length.

He did exactly what they wanted plus more. In eight spectacular innings he gave up four hits, zero runs, zero walks and struck out 15. With numbers of this caliber it is only right that he would etch his name in the history books.

Burnes Making History

His 15 strikeouts without a walk is the most strikeouts without a walk in a single game in franchise history. It is also the second most strikeouts for a Brewers pitcher in a single game behind only Ben Sheets who had 18 in 2004.

He did not just stop with franchise records. A little bit of background is needed first.

Back in 1970 New York Mets Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver became the first to ever strikeout 10 straight hitters in game. Even as strikeout numbers escalated this was a record held for 51 years. It was finally matched by Philadelphia Phillies ace Aaron Nola in June of 2021. What is really odd is he did it against none other than the Mets.

It is such a rare feat that it seems like it would be decades for it to happen again, however, it was only 47 days.

Burnes recorded his first strikeout for the first out of the second inning. He kept going until he struck out Frank Schwindel to lead off the fifth. He became the second pitcher this season and third in history to strike out 10 in a row.

None of this should shock baseball fans because of how Burnes began the season. He set the MLB record for most strikeouts in a row without a walk to start the season at 58.

Looking ahead there are only 47 games to go in the season, nevertheless it would not be too far fetched to consider the possibility that Corbin Burnes is not done making history this season.
