Seattle Mariners – Number One Farm System

In a farm system that was once more stacked than it still is. The Seattle Mariners have recently graduated both Logan Gilbert and Jarred Kelenic from the prospect rankings. Soon, the Mariners will see a third graduate from the farm system (Cal Raleigh).

Besides that, the Mariners are still tabbed with the Number One Farm System per Baseball America

Before Jerry Dipoto showed up in Seattle, this would have never happened because the two previous General Managers did not care about winning or about building something for the fans to enjoy for a long time to come. They just ran a team out there that would win the same amount of games every year, saying that they want to make the playoffs, but not actually doing so.

It was in 2019, that the Seattle Mariners saw Jerry Dipoto hit the Reset Button. Something that the Mariners Organization could have used a long-long time ago. He did so after trying a few ‘win now’ seasons with a majority of a roster constructed by the previous regime. Now that reset button is starting to pay off. While the Mariners are set for the future with the #1 Farm System, the team. But not only are they producing in terms of prospects and at the minor-league level… The big-league squad is currently sitting 3 games out of a wild card spot. Which we have seen many times, but the roster that Dipoto has constructed is different… It reminds you of the Refuse To Lose Mariners from 1995. Or at least a glimpse of that.

Seattle Mariners Prospects

Major League Baseball just released the new rankings for prospects as well. Here are a handful of names to look out for in the Mariners system:

  • Julio Rodriguez – Now leading the Mariners top 30, but also 2nd in all of baseball. J-Rod has been mashing this year between both Everett and Arkansas.
  • Emerson Hancock – Just recently called up to the Arkansas Travelers, Hancock has been phenomenal this year.
  • George Kirby – Also just got called up to Arkansas,
    •  “In Emerson’s case, the sixth pick in last year’s draft, one of the top college pitchers in the country for his three years at Georgia, we’ve had starts and stops with him this season as we try to build his workload after what equated to a missed year. The biggest thing for Emerson is just pitching innings, because what you saw (Wednesday) night in his Double-A debut, that’s how good he can be. It’s mid-upper 90s, it’s sink, it’s a good slider, a good changeup, a lot of strikes, and a real polish to him. And I can say the same about George Kirby. With both Kirby and Hancock, these are guys that have thrown less than 100 professional innings, and they’re already in Double-A, which I think speaks to both their polish and, really, their talent. They’ll come quick.” – Jerry Dipoto, via Brent Stecker
  • Noelvi Marte – Just his first season professionally in the United States, but the kid is showing his skills.
  • Sam Carlson
  • Brandon Williamson
  • and many more…

But, Mariners fans should be proud of what Jerry Dipoto has built here in Seattle and proud of how quickly he has been able to turn the farm system around. But they also need to be patient, enjoy the excitement and the ride, because Rome was not built in one day. The Mariners should be getting reinforcements at the big league level soon with K-Lew, Justin Dunn, Shed Long Jr., and Justus Sheffield should all be returning before the season’s end.
