Let me start right off by saying this: I went to Florida State, I love Florida State, and I will always love Florida State.  So, if I seem biased, that’s because I am! Go FSU!

FSU kicks their season off against Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish.  I expect there to be plenty of fight from them this week.  However, I am calling it now, FSU will come out on top!  Don’t sleep on the Seminoles because this is a team on the rise!

Last year was nothing short of a disaster.  New coach comes in and immediately has to contend with an earth halting pandemic.  No offseason programs, no way to implement his offense or defense, just one problem after another.

Now, Coach Norvell has had an offseason.  That alone should scare the gold right out of the helmets of Notre Dame.  We saw what mike Norvell could do with a program like Memphis, so his potential with Florida State is ridiculous.

A challenge has been issued between myself and my colleague Jordan Schultz.  He is of ND fandom, and I bleed Garnet and Gold.  So, friendly competition never hurt anyone, let’s get into why FSU will beat Notre Dame.

First, our offense is much improved from last year.  A wet piece of paper would have done better blocking.  Now we have improved strength, technique, and experience along the line.  This will give our new transfer player McKenzie Milton the time he needs to pick apart the ND defense.  Even if Milton doesn’t start, which isn’t a given, Jordan Travis and his speed are waiting to find those holes and hit them.

Add in running backs like Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili and this year we may run right down people’s throats!  I am so excited to watch what Norvell has up his sleeve in the run game.

Having guys like Keyshawn Helton and transfer Andrew Parchment are only going to take pressure off of the runners and give big play ability to the offense.

Defensively FSU lost players, but added five from the transfer portal and they are ready to get after it!  Consistency and effort are so important to Coach Norvell that I am nothing but optimistic our defense will be ready for the Ian Book-less Fighting Irish.

Where FSU has improved, I have to say Notre Dame has gone backwards.  Taking in a QB who was bounced from a run-first school in Wisconsin has to hurt.  Chase Claypool isn’t sitting in that receiver room and there is no one like him there.  I’ll take Norvell over Brian Kelly in coaching every day that ends in “Y”.

All in all, and with good nature ribbing aside, I expect this game to be a good one.  I don’t expect a blowout either way, I will predict an FSU win of 31-28.

Until Next Time
