DraftKings Buys for Week One

DraftKings
Baker Mayfield is playoff bound

Weekly Fantasy Football is one of the best innovations added to football betting. Finding matchups to exploit and creating a lineup on DraftKings is always a fun thing to bet on. With that being said, here are some players I’m adding to my roster for week 1. The prices are from DraftKings.

My Lineup

First, here’s the lineup I chose to make for the week. These are all players I was gonna write about in the article, so I figured I’d just show who I’m taking this week.

QB- Baker Mayfield, $5,900. The Browns-Chiefs rematch is going to be a slugfest. Both teams are heavy AFC contenders with loads of talent on both sides of the ball. I think Cleveland is going to go to Kansas City with some fire and win a high scoring game. So, expect a lot of yards and touchdowns from both Quarterbacks.

RB- Myles Gaskin, $6,000. Miami travels to New England to open the season. Mac Jones’ debut comes against a stout Miami defense. The Dolphins will put loads of pressure on the rookie and get out to an early lead, in my opinion. This allows a lot of targets and carries for Gaskin, so I’m expecting a big week one from him.

RB- Raheem Mostert, $5,800. Mostert and the 49ers open their season in Detroit against the Lions. Couple the 49ers’ prolific rushing attack against the Lions’ awful defense, and Mostert should run free. Also, I’m not expecting a lot out of the Lions offense, so Mostert should get a ton of carries.

WR- Corey Davis, $4,900. Davis is a popular sleeper pick early in the year and it makes sense why. Although it’s never good to overvalue preseason performances, Davis showed a great rapport with rookie Zach Wilson. He draws rookie Jaycee Horn week 1, and historically, cornerbacks have the toughest time adjusting to the NFL. Because of that, Davis will get some separation and a lot of catches.

WR- CeeDee Lamb, $5,700. Tampa Bay’s biggest weakness is their secondary, so Cowboys receivers should eat Thursday night. They also don’t have the defense to stop Brady and the Buccaneers, so a lot of points will be scored. CeeDee is a well known breakout candidate, so expect the hype to increase after week 1.

WR- Calvin Ridley, $7,900. Ridley is someone I expect a lot from this year. With the departure of Julio Jones, a lot of targets are up for grabs. Ridley is coming off a breakout year in 2020, and I don’t see why he can’t exceed those stats. Atlanta is at home against the Eagles week one, so Ridley could have a field day.

TE- T.J. Hockenson, $4,900. If you know me, you know I’m a Lions fan and I love T.J. Hockenson. He has an established connection with new Quarterback Jared Goff and is by far the best receiving option on the Lions depth chart. Hockenson will garner a lot of targets throughout the year as a safety option for Goff. I’m big on volume for fantasy, and I expect a lot weekly from Hockenson.

Flex- Gus Edwards, $5,600. Ever since the J.K Dobbins injury, Edwards’ stock has skyrocketed. Gus is no normal backup as he averaged around 5 yards a carry last year. With the threat of Lamar Jackson, an amazing running scheme, and a really good offensive line, Edwards will have space to operate against any defense. If he’s able to get the volume he’s projected, he’ll be an RB1 this year for fantasy and can start the year with a bang at Las Vegas.

Defense- Broncos, $3,300. The Broncos are one of my favorite defenses this year, and I’ve been stressing that constantly. Their secondary is lights out, and having Von Miller and Bradley Chubb off the edge doesn’t hurt either. All this talent, and they’re still somehow being viewed as a lower half defense. The Broncos start off at New York to play the Giants, and I think they’ll get a ton of pressure and force some turnovers, too.

Other Value Picks

Chase Edmonds, $4,600. In case anyone forgot, the Titans defense is still bad. The Cardinals open the season in Tennessee, and although it still isn’t clear how the running back situation will work, Edmonds is a sneaky play. Going up against a bad defense as an explosive runner is a perfect recipe for success. Because of this, Edmonds is a prime boom/bust candidate that could win people some money.

Cooper Kupp, $5,500. Kupp is another guy I’ve been all over this season. I think him and Matthew Stafford will quickly develop some chemistry together, leading Kupp to get a lot of targets this season. Kupp always makes the most of his targets, having soft hands and good YAC ability. Also, the Week 1 matchup is favorable against the Bears, giving Kupp a pretty high floor and ceiling for Week 1.

Chris Godwin, $6,200. Another guy who will benefit from the Thursday night slugfest is Godwin. The Cowboys will not be able to stop Brady through the air, so a lot of production will come from Bucs WRs. Godwin is currently going for a low price, and has top 10 fantasy week written all over him.

Kyle Pitts, $4,400. Don’t even ask me how DraftKings put Pitts so low. Right now, the price he’s going at is absurd for a guy of his talent and upside for his debut. With his athleticism, and the fact that other teams don’t really know how he’s gonna be used, he’s gonna surprise the Eagles. I’m expecting high production from the rookie.

Sam Darnold, $5,000. Call me crazy, but I believe Darnold will go off against his former team. Not only do the Jets suck, Darnold has a bunch of weapons in Carolina and has looked pretty good in preseason. Additionally, a nice revenge game to start the 2021 season is important for Darnold, and I think he can pull through.

Hopefully some of these guys help you win some money this week on DraftKings.
