College Football Playoff Predictions

Ty Russell / OU Athletics

Every college football season everybody tries to predict who the final 4 college football playoff teams standing will be even though it is nearly impossible to predict college football. However I am going to try anyway! Let’s see how accurate my predictions will be by the end of the season.

Oklahoma

Kicking off these College Football Playoff predictions is Oklahoma. This may come as a shock to a lot of people to see Oklahoma this high. However, quarterback Spencer Rattler is returning and he very well could win the heisman trophy this season. They’re coming off a 10-2 season where they dominated Florida to win the Cotton Bowl to cap off the season. Lincoln Riley is a great offensive mind and could potentially lead the most lethal offense in the nation this year. However, the main reason Oklahoma could very well end up being the number one seed is because of the roster turnover at Alabama and Clemson. Alabama needs to replace quarterback Mac Jones, running back Najee Harris, and wide receiver and headman trophy winner DeVonta Smith. Clemson is replacing quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne. These changes opens the door for Oklahoma to take over college football this season especially with Spencer Rattler leading the way.

Alabama

Similar to Clemson, Alabama lost a lot this offseason. Their three stars on offense are gone. However Nick Saban is the greatest college football coach of this generation. He has won six national championships at Alabama. Alabama will remain the team to beat in the SEC this year and will return to the playoff. New quarterback Bryce Young is one of the most talented in the country. Saban will have the defense revamped and ready to go. Alabama will continue to dominate this upcoming season.

Georgia

Georgia has not gotten over the top in a few years but this could be the year. However, quarterback J.T. Daniels is back coming off a solid season and the defense should be solid once again. The SEC is also somewhat vulnerable this season as Kellen Mond is no longer at Texas A&M, and Kyle Trask is no longer at Florida so Georgia has a chance to have a very good season in the SEC.

Clemson

As mentioned above, Clemson lost a lot this offseason. Trevor Lawrence was one of the most prolific quarterbacks of the last decade, same with running back Travis Etienne. However, Dabo Swinney is one of the best coaches in college football and Clemson does not rebuild, they reload every year. When Trevor Lawrence got covid last season, quarterback DJ Uiagalelei stepped up and showed just how promising his future is. He almost led Clemson over a top 5 Notre Dame team on the road last season. Clemson will be just fine. Expect them to return to the CFP this season.
