Iowa vs Iowa State is going to be one of the best games of the year. Lucky for Iowa State, they are playing at home because it is the only chance for them to make a push for the playoffs. With Iowa being #10 and Iowa State being #9, the game is the closest ranks playing this week.
Iowa started the season off in dominant fashion by beating Indiana 34 to 6. Iowa’s offense played an average game and only had 303 total yards. They had an even split of offense between passing and rushing. Their quarterback, Spencer Petras, had 145 passing yards but did not have any touchdowns. Tyler Goodson missed out on rushing for 100 yards by 1 yard but did score the only offensive touchdown of the game. Their Defense had a great game as while. They only allowed 233 yards of total offense. In addition, they only allowed 77 rushing yards. They not only just stopped them from gaining many yards, but they also got three interceptions. Two of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
Iowa must keep the momentum from the week before. The defense must play the same way then did week one. However, the offense did not have a great game and they need to figure it all out. The defense cannot be the only side of the ball that can make big plays and score more than the offense does. With being at Iowa State, the game will be different than the Indiana game. Iowa needs to step up their game and play a lot better. This will be life or death for the College Football Playoffs because if they lose then they will be out of the picture.
Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State did not dominate this game. The score was a lot closer only being 16 to 10. They also played Northern Iowa who is in the FCS. It was a slow game with their only being 2 total touchdowns. The Iowa State’s defense did have a good game. They only allowed 45 rushing yards but did let up a passing touchdown and 230 passing yards and got two interceptions. Their quarterback, Brock Purdy did pass for 199 yards and their offense had 335 total yards. The offense did get lucky because if their defense did not play the way, then they would have lost the game.
Iowa State must continue playing good defense against the run and build on the passing defense too. They will have to score more than just a touchdown and be able to finish their drives because field goals will not win this game. Iowa State needs to find a way to score touchdowns. They also need to rush the ball a little better and have big plays because that is what will keep them in this game.
Iowa State vs Iowa will be a great game to watch. Iowa will have to keep up the pressure and make Iowa State pass the ball often. Iowa’s defense needs to play the same way they did in week 1. Otherwise, they will have some trouble with Iowa State. They need to just figure out how to finish their drives off. With that being said, Iowa will dominate this game on both sides of the ball. Iowa State did not ready for a good team after last week and will not be able to hang with Iowa.
My prediction: Iowa wins 35 to 10.
