The Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals played an exciting football game. Cincinnati pulled out 27-24 win in overtime to open the NFL season. Bengals field goal kicker Evan McPherson kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bengals the win in overtime.

The Bengals went for fourth and inches on their own 48-yard line; Joe Burrow rolled out and hit tight end C.J. Uzomah for a 32 yard gain on the game-winning drive.

Joe Burrow Played Well

In his first game since his season-ending knee injury last year, Burrow threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 20 of his 27 pass attempts. Burrow looked comfortable out there, and that is good for Cincinnati. However, the Bengals must do a better job of protecting Burrow; he was sacked five times.

Joe Mixon Looked Great

Joe Mixon missed a lot of time last year due to a foot injury but looked sharped in the NFL opener. Mixon rushed 127 yards and had a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The running back also caught four passes for 23 yards. If the Bengals are to be successful, Mixon will need to continue his strong play.

Ja’Marr Chase Caught The Ball

Much was made about Ja’Marr Chase‘s drops in the preseason, but against the Vikings, Chase caught five passes for 101 yards and a 50-yard touchdown from Burrow. Again, Chase showed why the Bengals took him with the fifth pick of the NFL Draft.

Slowed Down Dalvin Cook

The Bengals did an outstanding job slowing down Dalvin Cook and the Vikings’ running game. Cook only had 61 yards on 21 carries. Minnesota as a team had 67 yards on 22 rushes attempts and only averaged 3.0 yards per rush. Cincinnati did a good job getting off blocks and tackling well. Two things you must do when stopping the run.
