NFL Awards Predictions

NFL Football
(Dean Rutz / The Seattle Times)

NFL awards are very unpredictable every year for numerous reasons, but it’s always fun to try to predict the outcome. Here’s who I think will win awards for the 2021-2022 NFL season!

MVP

Russell Wilson. The Seattle Seahawks have not taken advantage of Russell Wilson’s prime the past few seasons, but that could change this season with new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron taking over play calling duties. Seattle has weapons around Russell, such as star receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, along with solid running back Chris Carson. The Seahawks will be letting Russ cook in the 2021-2022 season.

OPOTY

Davante Adams. Adams had an elite 2020-2021 season and I expect him to produce similar, if not better, numbers in 2021-2022. He is (in my opinion) the best receiver in football. Oh, and by the way, 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers is back and more motivated than ever. The Packers will let Rodgers play freely, which equals production for Adams. Adams had 18 touchdowns last season, and he very well could top that number in 2021, which is why he is my pick for offensive player of the year.

DPOTY

Aaron Donald. Do I even need to explain this pick? Aaron Donald is the best defender in football. It’s that simple. He is the definition of a game wrecker, and he makes teams change their playbook and game plan just by being on the field. Unless another defender has a big career year, this award is Donald’s to lose.

COTY

Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers have a great roster, but they dealt with a plethora of injuries last season, which resulted in a bad season. They should have a successful turn around this season, that should be led by a top defense. Expect the 49ers to be back in the playoffs, and Shanahan will be a big reason why the team finds success this season.

OROTY

Najee Harris. Najee should immediately find success, as he is the team’s starting running back right out of the gate. Pittsburgh will look to incorporate the run game more this year, as they relied too heavily on the pass game last season. Najee should also get a lot of looks through the air, as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be looking for short passes all season. Najee should put up big numbers on the ground and through the air.

DROTY

Patrick Surtain. Surtain is a perfect fit in the Broncos defensive scheme, as they pride themselves on a front seven that can get to the quarterback and a secondary that can wreck havoc on opposing receivers. Surtain will be a sure-fire starter in year one under Vic Fangio’s defense. Expect plenty of pass break-ups, tackles, and multiple interceptions from Surtain this season.
