The Holy War comes to the Sin City! The Shamrock Series for 2022 has been announced.
It was announced today that Notre Dame and BYU have agreed to play in the 2022 Shamrock Series, which will take place in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.
The game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 8 and will be televised nationally on NBC.
“We are really excited about the opportunity to return to Allegiant Stadium and face Notre Dame,” BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a prepared statement. “This has been a process, with a lot of back-and-forth, to be able to find a return game in this series that would work for both sides. We feel very good about playing this game in Las Vegas, where Cougar Nation always shows out, and look forward to an incredible matchup and atmosphere.“
The matchup brings together two of the most powerful religious universities in the nation as the Catholic Notre Dame and Mormon BYU face off in the desert. The programs combined to win 21 games in 2020 during breakout seasons with the Fighting Irish earning its second trip to the College Football Playoff in three seasons. BYU and Notre Dame have played eight times previously with Notre Dame holding a 6-2 edge. In the most recent matchup, Tommy Rees outdueled Taysom Hill in a 23-13 Notre Dame win on Nov. 23, 2013.
