Ohio State is looking like they are finding their footing heading into their second half of the season after this 66 to 17 win over Maryland. They are on a four-game win streak, and in the past three games, they have scored 50 plus points. C.J. Stroud is finally showing everyone that he is a dominant quarterback. For Maryland, they did not look good once again especially when they play top-ranked teams. Is Ohio State turning their season around after this win?
Two Different Types Of Offense
Just looking at the 66 to 17 scoreline, you should be able to tell who’s offense had the better day. Once again, Ohio State has dominated on both facets of the offense. C.J. Stroud once put up Heisman numbers, throwing for 406 yards and five touchdowns. He passed 33 times and had 24 completions.
In addition to Stroud’s performance, Treveyon Henderson had 102 rushing yards on only 16 carries and added two more touchdowns. Chris Olave had 120 yards on seven receptions and had two touchdowns. Olave wasn’t the only receiver who had a day. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 103 receiving yards on five receptions, and Garrett Wilson had 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Maryland had another game that just looked sloppy. Taulia Tagovailoa once again throws two interceptions. He did have 279 passing yards and two touchdowns but had negative 61 rushing yards. Their rushing game did not have any luck as while. They had only 56 total rushing yards on 36 rushing attempts. Maryland has slowed down on offense the last couple of games.
Ohio State Buckeyes Defense
Ohio State’s defense has been the topic for many people since the first two weeks of the season. This game was a lot different than we have seen. They only allowed 335 total yards and holding Maryland to only 56 rushing yards. They also had five sacks that led to the negative 61 yards that Tagovailoa had. Ohio State’s defense is getting better and is making pass-heavy teams think about their game plans a little more.
Ohio State is making a case on why they should be in the top 4 even after their loss to Oregon. This game was their fourth win in a row and their third game with 50 plus points. Maryland’s shining star has been rapidly declining and is going to make it hard for them to win games. This game showed everyone that their offense is struggling just as much as their defense.
Ohio State and Maryland’s next games are not until 10/23.
