The Houston Texans and the Miami Dolphins are reportedly working on a trade for star quarterback Deshaun Watson, via John McClain. The deal could be done by the end of the week. Watson has been inactive for the first six weeks of the season, despite being healthy.
Deshaun Watson is currently facing 22 lawsuits from women who say that the quarterback sexually assaulted them. Out of those women, 10 have also filed criminal complaints. Watson won’t be deposed until early 2022. The NFL has also been conducting their own investigation into Watson. They’ve made no move to suspend him during the season.
The trade negations would have to be completed before November 2. That is the trade deadline. Watson could bring some much needed energy to the Dolphins, who are currently 1-5. The Dolphins have been struggling to find an identify this season. If Watson were able to play in Miami, he could help the Dolphins get back on track. Watson had a good 2020 season, throwing for 33 touchdowns and 4,823 yards despite missing the playoffs.
The question for Miami is what they would do with Tua Tagovailoa. Tua has struggled this season, as he currently has a 42.0 QBR. If the Dolphins hope to make Watson their long term solution at quarterback, they could look to trade Tua before the deadline as well. The Washington Football Team, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Denver Broncos would all be good landing spots for Tua. The Dolphins could also look to keep Tua, as the NFL could still suspend Watson.
During the 2020 offseason, Watson requested to be traded. The lawsuits were filed after Watson requested a trade. No team has showed interest in trading for Watson since then.
