The Cincinnati Navy matchups offers an interesting matchup schematically. The Bearcats have a balanced attack while the Midshipmen continue to ride the triple option. What can we expect out of both of these teams? Let’s break it all down.
What To Look For – Cincinnati
Cincy comes in as the second best team in the country led by Desmond Ridder. Ridder has been lights out at quarterback and is a huge reason of why the team is at this point. We saw against Notre Dame that he can make big throws against elite teams. Jerome Ford is the engine that makes the run game go. The Alabama transfer had made his mark on the offense and it’s safe to say he will run rampant again against a 1-5 team. Ford had 190 yards and four touchdowns against UCF. Keep an eye on Alec Pierce on the receiving end He is the slot receiver who has been solid all year long.
On defense, Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Coby Bryant have been great corners during the season. They may not factor in as much against a run heavy offense. But, Darrian Beavers will get a chance to shine. He wears 0 on defense and has really taken his came to the next level since coming over from UCONN.
What To Look For – Navy
Navy is having a tough go. It seems like everyone is carrying the ball. It’s great that everyone is getting involved, but nobody is getting a chance to really get in a groove. All three quarterbacks are being used as well which usually isn’t the best sign. If we go off the last game they played, Isaac Ruoss was the lead ball carrier with 18 carries for 75 yards. Quarterback Tai Lavatai went 3/4 for 27 yards and touchdown and also ran 17 times for 52 yards.
With respect to Navy, that is not going to cut it against the number two team in the country. The service academies always have tough and physical teams. There is always the chance that the run game will really take a toll on them and that the defense can out work the bearcats o-line and get to Ridder. No singling out one defensive player here, they need everybody to step up for this one.
Final Thoughts And Predictions
You can’t make mistakes against a team like Navy because they are built on discipline, toughness, and grit. Cincinnati can’t make any mistakes and can’t get comfortable. With that being said, this is a tall task for Navy and they have too much fire power to deal with on Cincy’s offense. I like the Bearcats winning this one 40-17.
