The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the decision to hire a new manager for the team. Oliver Marmol, the bench coach for the team, will be named the new manager at a press conference on Monday morning at 10:00 am CST.

This news was first broken by Katie Woo and Ken Rosenthal of The Atlantic.

Oliver Marmol And the Cardinal Way

Marmol has been considered by many to be the frontrunner for the manager position from the time of the announcement of Mike Shildt’s firing 10 days ago. At 35, Marmol will now be the youngest manager in the major leagues. Marmol was drafted by the Cardinals in 2007, and he spent four seasons in the minors. He worked in the Cardinals Farm System as a coach and a manager before becoming first base coach with the team in St. Louis. Marmol has spent the past three seasons as the bench coach for Mike Shildt.

The Cardinals are now expected to keep the remaining coaching staff. That is, other than the team now needing a new bench coach.

More to follow after the news conference on Monday morning.
