It is no surprise that every year fantasy football has breakout stars that leave everyone wishing they had picked that player in the their drafts. Last season it was rookies James Robinson and Jonathan Taylor that delivered managers huge weekly performances. Both totaling over a thousand yards in their opening campaigns with a combined 18 touchdowns, each player finished in the top five at the running back position. Anyone who was lucky enough to select them this year knows just how valuable they are in fantasy regardless of format. So far this season, there has been one name that has stuck out like a sore thumb and has left the fantasy world in shock. That player is Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp.

Kupps Past

Kupp has been one of the most underrated players in the league. After his breakout season in 2019 with Jared Goff under center Kupps fantasy value for the 2020 season sky rocketed. However his performance last year disappointed many as he failed to catch for a thousand yards and only found the end zone three times. Goffs throwing abilities had a-lot to do with Kupps potential as becoming one of the best in the league Now that Goff is in Detroit, Matthew Stafford is the one to credit for Kupps re emergence as he has hall of fame experience throwing the football.

Kupp This Season

Stafford knows a thing or two about throwing to good receivers. He had the opportunity to throw to one of the greatest wide receivers to ever live in Calvin Johnson. Now Cupp is no Calvin Johnson, but what he has been able to do with a change at the quarterback position has been nothing short of spectacular. Known for his yards after the catch this is something that makes the Stafford connection similar to that of Megatron’s. Fantasy managers were stuck scratching their heads when deciding between Cupp and teammate Robert Woods, but Cupp has overwhelmingly become Stafford’s favorite target averaging over 10 targets per game.

Many debated whether this production could be consistent. Though after seven weeks, it is obvious that Kupp’s dominance is here to stay. Coming into week 8, he will take an absurd stat line of 809 yards and nine touchdowns into the team’s matchup with the lowly Texans . In half point and full PPR leagues Kupp has hit over 25 points four times giving fantasy managers one of the highest floors at any position. This gives him the best start through seven games in the history of fantasy and the NFL. With Woods clearly no threat to overtake Cupp as the 1A, it is becoming more and more evident that Kupps historic start will undoubtedly make him the top fantasy player this season, and maybe all time at this rate.
