In CSM’s Wednesday edition of NHL Rumors, we cover the Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Arizona Coyotes. Let’s go in depth now and see what NHL Rumors are out there for these teams.
We cover the increasingly downward trend of the Blackhawks. Then, the Maple Leafs changing lines to get some production and how that worked. And finally, which player other teams have been inquiring about on the Coyotes roster. You won’t want to miss this one!
Chicago Blackhawks – General Manager Resigns, Team Off To A Terrible Start
Rumor: Per Elliotte Friedman – In the midst of a sex scandal dating back to 2010, Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman resigned. The NHL fined the team $2 million and there may be others implicated in this mess.
Rumor #2: Per Stanley Sweeney – nhltraderumors.me. Then, before this even happened the team has been playing very poor hockey. The head coach Jeremy Colliton was being booed at games, and fans were demanding he be fired.
Analysis: Can the pieces of what’s left of this organization be picked up? Cleaning house in the front office is the first step. After that the team will still need to address their pitiful play. Will Colliton be part of the house cleaning? He has just a 86-88-25 record since replacing Joel Quenneville, who too will be questioned by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman for any information he may have in the scandal.
To state that this team is a dumpster fire at this point is a gross understatement. It’s also very embarrassing for the players and the organization. Just think how newly acquired goalie Marc-Andre Fleury feels now that was traded to Chicago.
It will take time for the team to recover from everything. It certainly will be difficult, if not impossible, for the players to not be distracted by the events which took place. They have already lost fan support with their consecutive sellout record ending and that was before the news from the NHL investigation results into the scandal.
Good luck Chicago Blackhawks… you’re going to need it!
Toronto Maple Leafs – Line Changes, Poor Start
Rumor: Head Coach Sheldon Keefe changed his lines as the Toronto Maple Leafs have struggled to an unimpressive 2-4-1 start. Even this shakeup didn’t seem to help the team as they dropped their fourth game in a row. Placing Mitch Marner on the second line and moving Nick Ritchie to the fourth line didn’t help the team’s fate.
Analysis: While the demotions of Marner and Ritchie are valid reactions since between the two players they have just one assist, the experiment didn’t work. They still were beaten by the Carolina Hurricanes easily 4-1. The Carolina club is unbeaten and most Toronto fans are wondering why their team is floundering with a mediocre 2-4-1 record.
With the hyped media pressure in Toronto, who knows how long it will be before wholesale changes will be put into action. Granted it is still early, but tell that to those already demanding Keefe be gone and trades be made.
Arizona Coyotes – Barrett Hayton
Rumor: Per Jeff Merek – Sportsnet.ca. Even though the Arizona Coyotes have not been shopping former fifth overall 2018 pick Barrett Hayton, teams have inquired about his availability. He has not requested a trade per his agent Pat Morris.
Coyotes insider Craig Morgan tweeted:
Analysis: Merek stated in the Sportsnet.ca video, “Here’s his situation. The Arizona Coyotes have not raised his name in any trade discussions, but in a lot of their trade discussions that we know of, Arizona is in the picks and prospects business. Right now, his name is coming up more and more, but we know Jakob Chychrun is going to stay, but everybody else we wonder about. But Barrett Hayton – André Tourigny, the Coyotes head coach, loves him, made him captain at the World Juniors in 2020, so it looks like (Hayton’s) staying.”
Perhaps with the recent injury to Ryan Dzingel, Hayton may get called up to the Coyotes to fill in. Thus far Hayton has not shown any indication that he was worth the #5 overall pick in 2018. He has participated in just 34 NHL games with three goals and four assists. If he can get into some Coyotes games, he may be able to show why they should not trade him.
