IHSA FOOTBALL FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF PREVIEW HIGHLAND AT MORTON
On Friday, October 29th, 2021. The Highland Bulldogs and Morton Potters kickoff the Halloween weekend, by squaring off in the IHSA Playoffs in the first round. The Morton Potters come in at 7 and 2 overall, 6 and 1 in the Mid Illini conference. The Potters are co Mid Illini champions. The boys of fall from the 61550 are 4 and 1, at home this year. The Highland Bulldogs are 3 and 2, on the road this year. The Highland Bulldogs are 5 and 4 overall and 4 and 1, in the Mississippi Valley conference. The Bulldogs come into the IHSA Playoffs riding the momentum of a 4 game winning streak. Smashing Effingham 42 to 21 in the season finale on the road. Both teams can really score.
POINTS A PLENTY
On paper this looks like its going to be an exciting, high scoring affair. The Highland Bulldogs have scored 314 points this season. The Highland Bulldogs have Travis Porter in the backfield and 3 year quarterback Brent Wuebbels under center. Who is experienced and a duel threat, poised to move the chains and keep the high powered Morton Potters attack off the field. The Morton Potters are led by a strong offensive line and one of the best running backs in the state, Seth Glatz. In fact he has rushed for over 4000 yards, in addtion to seeing the end zone over 50 times while waring the cherry and gray. Keeping him contained and watching the game from the sidelines by controlling the ball, will be very important for the Highland Bulldogs to keep the season going.
The Morton Potters have scored 329 points this season. In fact, 96 of those in the last two games. The Morton Potters are on a 4 game winning streak themselves. Destroying a solid Dunlap Eagles team, who beat the co Mid Illini champion Washington Panthers earlier in the season. The Morton Potters beat Dunlap 42 to 7 in Dunlap. The Washington Panthers are the only common foe between Morton and Highland. Both lost to the Panthers. The Morton Potters are coached by Tim Brilley, who is most proud this season, of the way his team continues to raise the standard of the program and winning the Mid Illini conference. The Highland Bulldogs are coached by Jim Warnecke, who could not be reached for comment.
My prediction for the game is Morton 56 Highland 42.
