Story Behind this
This year’s World Series is a memorable one for the Snitkers family. The family loves baseball. Troy and his father, Brian Snitker, have had an adventurous life in baseball. Troy Snitker, the Hitting Coach for the Houston Astros, is Brian Snitkers’ son. Brian Stikners is the Manager for the Atlanta Braves.
While his father Brian was the bullpen coach in the Braves Organization, Troy was a batboy and clubhouse attendant. Troy was raised in the Braves organization. After high school, Troy attended college and played baseball. In 2011, the Braves drafted him. He caught for several teams within the Braves organization. The club traded him to the Pirates in 2013. He retired right before the start of the 2014 season due to a concussion.
After retiring from playing the game, Troy knew he wanted to stay in baseball. However, he wanted to create his own way, without his father’s help. He accomplished what he needed to, and received a job with the Astros. His father passed down 44 years of baseball lessons he had learned to Troy.
Baseball lessons Troy learned over the years from his father are certainly paying off. In the words of Brian Snitker, “I’m very proud of him. He went about it the right way. He’s always been just a really hard, dedicated worker. He got his foot in the door, like a lot of us have over the years.”
How long have they been in the MLB
Braves Manager, Brian Stikner has appeared on the coaching staff within the Braves organization since 1982. In the organization, Brian was a backup Minor League Catcher before he started coaching.
According to Troy, speaking about his father, “He has so many positive qualities about him, but he’s always the same guy no matter whether they’re winning or losing, he takes the same mindset to the field every day. He’s been through so much in his career… there were plenty of times where he could have easily decided to go do something else, but he stuck with it. I’d say his hard work is the biggest thing that I try to emulate with him.”
Brian Stikners’ 44 years in baseball creates a positive influence. Lessons Troy learned from his Father creates positive influence. Despite the outcome, the dazzling World Series Trophy will stay in the family.
