The woes at Camp Nou just keep on coming. On Monday, Barcelona issued a short follow up statement in regards to the medical condition of striker Sergio Aguero.
The statement from the club read: “The first team player Sergio Agüero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection during the next three months, and the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process.”
Aguero Rushed To Hospital
During Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Alaves on Saturday, Aguero experienced chest pains. The striker was first tended to by medical staff out on the pitch before finally being able to stand up and walk off before halftime. Midfielder Philippe Coutinho replaced him as a substitute.
Aguero was then immediately transported to a hospital where cardiac exams were performed. The club released that Aguero had suffered an arrhythmia during the match.
Interim head coach, Sergi Barjuan, spoke more on the matter during Monday’s press conference. “Aguero is an important player for us and his absence is a setback.”
“I spoke to him, exchanged WhatsApps and he is calm. He is in his [hospital] room, locked there as he says but he is calm.”
The three month absence also means the striker will have to miss both of Argentina’s World Cup Qualifiers later on this month against Uruguay and Brazil.
Barcelona is experiencing one of their most disappointing starts of the season, currently sitting 9th in La Liga.
Best wishes are with Sergio as he begins his road to recovery.
