Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Recap/Preview

Let’s look at the Atlantic Coast Conference games from last week and look ahead to this week. Duke and North Carolina are the two teams we are checking out.

Duke Vs Gardner-Webb

The Blue Devils hosted Gardner-Webb Tuesday, November 16th. Duke came out victorious 92-52. From three-point range, Duke shot 45 percent. Six Duke players scored double figures. Duke ended the game 36-of-63, and 11 guys played in the game. Trevor Keels 4-of-6 three-pointers and 6-of-9 total for 18 points. He also had seven rebounds. Wendell Moore Jr. contributed 14 points, and five rebounds.
Mark Williams had 13 points and six blocks.
The Blue Devils averaged 24 total assists, with Jeremy Roach chipping in 6 and 10 points. Paolo Banchero averaged 10 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
Joey Baker ended the game in double digits with 12 points.

The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs shot 36.8 percent. Lance Terry led the Bulldogs with 15 points and two steals, with Kareem Reid adding 14 points and five rebounds. Anthony Selden had nine points and six rebounds.

Duke Vs Lafayette

On Friday, November 19th, Duke welcomed in Lafeyette, defeating them 88-55. Wendell Moore, Jr tallied 23 points. AJ Griffin tallied 18 points scoring in double figures. Mark Williams scored 14 points and 15 rebounds, Paolo Banchero scored 11 points, and Trevor Keels added 10 points.
Kyle Jenkins led Lafayette scoring 18 points and four three-pointers out of the teams, seven total. Lafayette ended with 17 turnovers.

Duke Vs The Citadel

The Duke Blue Devils hosted The Citadel on Monday, November 22nd, Duke winning the contest 107-81.
Together Paolo Banchero and Wendell Moore Jr scored 50 points. Duke had 25 assists and three turnovers. Paolo Banchero scored 28 points, six assists, eight rebounds, two steals, and did not commit a turnover. Wendell did not commit a turnover scoring 22 points, eight bounds, and nine assists. Other point contributors, Mark Williams 14 points, Trevor Keels 11 points, and Jeremy Roach 10 points. Duke made 27 free throws out of 29 attempts.
The Citadel made ten three-pointers in the first half. Stephen Clark scored the first nine points in the second half, the Bulldogs totaling 16 points. The Bulldogs made 18 three-pointers in the game out of 34 attempts. Hayden Brown and Brent Davis scored 19 points each, and Tyler Moffe had seven points, five rebounds, and seven assists.

Next Up For Duke

This Friday, November 26th, the Blue Devils take a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, to battle Number 1 Gonzaga. Game time 10:30 P. M. Eastern.

North Carolina Vs College Of Charleston

The Tar Heels traveled to College of Charleston Tuesday, November 16th winning 94-83. North Carolina fought through miscues to defeat College of Charleston. Armando Bacot made 24 points, six blocks, and 12 rebounds. Caleb Love scored 22 points scoring 18 in the second half.
College of Charleston came within one 72-71 after Reyne Smith made two free throws. Kerwin Walton made a three-pointer to push the lead back up for North Carolina totaling 14 points, and Brady Manek scored 17 points.
North Carolina turned the ball over 11 times in the first half and five in the second half. Charleston struggled to keep up with Bacot, R.J. Davis, and Caleb Love in the second half. For the Cougars, Reyne Smith scored 19 points and five 3-pointers. Ben Burnham scored 17 points, Fah’mir Ali had 13 points, four assists, and four steals, and Brenden Tucker scored 10 points.

North Carolina Vs Purdue

North Carolina played Purdue Saturday, November 20th, with Purdue coming out on top 93-84. Sasha Stefanovic scored 23 points, while Jaden Ivey added 22 points and ten rebounds. Trevion Williams had 20 points.
For North Carolina, Dawson Garcia made 26 points. R.J. Davis and Caleb Love scored 18 points each. With nine minutes left, R.J. Davis made a three-pointer from the left-wing, putting the Tar Heels up by one 65-64(only lead of the game). Armando Bacot could only score two points before fouling out of the game.
Purdue shot 56 percent from the floor. Both teams received 36 fouls. North Carolina did not hit any free throws in the first half and the second half, making ten shots out of 12 total.

North Carolina Vs Tennessee

The Tar Heels played Tennessee on Sunday, November 21st losing the hard-fought battle 89-72.
Tennessee freshman Zakai Zeigler recorded 18 points, Santiago Vescovi recorded 18 points and nine rebounds.
For the Tar Heels, Brady Manek made six three-pointers scoring 24 points. Armando Bacot scored 16 points and 12 rebounds. North Carolina lost the battle in the paint 54-22 and committed 13 turnovers.
North Carolina shot 40%.

Next Up For North Carolina

North Carolina hosts UNC Asheville Tuesday, November 23rd at 7 P.M.

General Conference Overview

The Atlantic Coast Conference consists of fantastic talent on every team.
Duke leads the conference at number 1. Virginia Tech 2, Wake Forest 3, Florida State 4, Georgia Tech 5, NC State 6, Louisville 7, Miami 8, Clemson 9, Notre Dame 10, North Carolina 11, Virginia 12, Boston College 13, and Pittsburgh 14.

A team in the Atlantic Coast Conference currently not in the AP Top 25 is Virginia Tech. They are playing well and are 5-0 overall.
