Gophers running back Mohamed Ibrahim Jr. announced his return to Minnesota for the 2022 college football season. Ibrahim posted the announcement through a inspirational video through his Twitter account.
See the video for yourself here:
Ibrahim put this year’s season ending injury into an interesting perspective, by saying “The season I’d been dreaming of, was gone in a blink of an eye.” Mo went down in week 1 against Ohio State, after suffering an Achilles injury late in the third quarter. Ibrahim would finish his only game of the 2021 season, with 30 carries,163 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Mohamed had previously won the Big Ten running back of the year award in 2020. He also had been named an Associated Press third-team All-America selection in 2020.
Ibrahim ranks 8th all-time for rushes in a Minnesota uniform with 3003, and also ties for 3rd in all-time rushing touchdowns with 33. And even if Ibrahim were to declare for the NFL Draft, he would be sitting in a pretty Top 10 spot, for all of the running backs in the 2022 class.
What’s left for the rest of Minnesota’s season?
Minnesota has one last game remaining on the year. And it’s a very important one, as they host their rivals the Wisconsin Badgers, to play for the notorious Paul Bunyan’s Axe. The Badgers hold the current win streak with 2, but the Gophers will look to change that this Saturday. And not only could the Gophers just take back the axe, they could completely win the Big Ten West. With a win, an Iowa loss, and a Purdue win.
