Last Call For Juventus and Atalanta

For the third time this year, Juventus and Atalanta will face each other in a fierce-clash. Every time these two teams meet, just know that you’re guaranteed an entertaining game. Not so long ago, Juventus and Atalanta faced each other in the Coppa Italia final, where ‘la vecchia signora’ came out victorious in a 2-1 win.

Nevertheless, this match-up will be a little different than past seasons. Both teams have had a slow start to their respective Serie A seasons. Atalanta currently sits in 4th with 25 points, while Juventus sits in 8th with 21 points. Despite that both team have won their last two league games, both of them have been very inconsistent. Therefore, this match could pave the way for one team, and provide another set-back to the other team.

‘Title-Deciding’ Match-Up

Although it sounds crazy, this match could be a “title-decider”. I say “title-decider” in quotation marks as Atalanta and Juventus sit 7 points and 11 points respectively behind current league leaders Napoli. Although there is a huge gap from the top spot, Napoli and 2nd place AC Milan are hitting a dip in form.

If the ‘Partenopei’ and the ‘Rossoneri’ keep dropping points, and Juventus or Atalanta continue their winning streak, they could sneak their way into a title-race. But for this to be a reality, ‘la dea’ and ‘la vecchia signora’ have to be more consistent. Nevertheless, this doesn’t take away from the fact that

Arrivederci Gasperini or Allegri?

In addition to this being the last call for both clubs, this could be the last call for their respective coaches. With the growth of Atalanta and the decline of Juventus in the past few years, both coaches could be under fire if they lose this match.

Although Gasperini has guided his team to three consecutive top 4 finishes and two Coppa Italia finals, he’s still missing the finishing touch: winning trophies. This is Atalanta’s golden generation, and they need some silverware before it’s too late. Now that Atalanta is a more ambitious club, it could be time for the club owners to find a more ambitious manager if Gasperini fails to capitalize.

On the other hand, Massimiliano Allegri could be under scrutiny for not lifting this Juventus squad up. When club legend Allegri was appointed as this summer, everyone thought that the Scudetto would go back to Turin again. But ever since Ronaldo left this summer, it’s been downhill for Juve. Juventus went from title hopefuls to top four hopefuls. If Juventus fail to win against Atalanta, they could turn into Europa League hopefuls.

With all of this taken into consideration, we can expect an entertaining match. Two team will go out ultimately win the game. The Scudetto challenge ride is leaving, and there’s only one spot left in that train.
