In the Foxborough flurries, the New England Patriots beat the Tennessee Titans 36-13. Mac Jones and the Patriots put up one of their best offensive performances of the season, while the defense, although giving up 200+ yards on the ground, forced four turnovers. The Titans ran all day long but could not keep up with the Patriots.

Game Recap

1st Quarter

The Patriots started the first half off extremely strong. Mac Jones and the offense were rolling. Halfway through the first quarter, Mac Jones floated a great pass to the corner of the endzone where he found Kendrick Bourne for a 4 yard touchdown.

2nd Quarter

The Titans drove down the field where Nick Westbrook-Ikhine scored on a 1 yard screen pass. Initially called down just short, a Mike Vrabel threw the challenge flag and overturned the call resulting in a touchdown. Randy Bullock missed the extra point, and the Patriots led 7-6 early in the second quarter.

Nick Folk nailed a trio of field goals within the last 10 minutes of the half. The Patriots offense stalled out on their drives and were kept out of the endzone in the second quarter. His third field goal came off of a fumble from Titans running back Dontrell Hilliard.

Hilliard didn’t let that affect his play as he bounced back and sprinted through the Patriots defense for a 68 yard touchdown run.

That didn’t put an end to the half. Mac Jones and the Patriots got themselves into field goal range where Nick Folk missed a 53 yard field goal.

A Ryan Tannehill knee brought the game to halftime with the Patriots up 16-13.

3rd Quarter

The Patriots received the ball to start the second half where they drove down the field and stalled out again. Nick Folk bounced back after his miss at the end of the half and hit a short 28 yard field goal.

19-13 Patriots.

During a big run from Titans running back D’onta Foreman, JC Jackson chased him down, punched the ball out and Jalen Mills dove on it as the Patriots took over.

Kendrick Bourne took a short pass from Mac Jones early in the third quarter for a touchdown. It was a short pass but some great running and tiptoeing gave Bourne his second touchdown of the day.

26-13 Patriots

4th Quarter

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Titans went for it on 4th and goal from the 2 yard line. Ryan Tannehill attempted to throw to the back of the endzone and Devin McCourty tipped the ball resulting in a JC Jackson interception.

Nick Folk kicked his fifth field goal of the game with just about 6 minutes left in the game.

29-13 Patriots

Damien Harris put the game away with just under 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. A 14 yard touchdown run behind the blocking of Trent Brown gave the Patriots a 36-13 lead.

The Titans took Ryan Tannehill out of the game for their last drive and put in Kevin Hogan. Khari Blasingame lost the ball after a short run and the Patriots had their fourth turnover of the game.

Brian Hoyer kneeled the remainder of the game away and the Patriots won 36-13.

Titans Takeaways

The Titans showed that they can be a run first team without Derrick Henry. The offensive line played extremely well. D’onta Foreman and Dontrell Hilliard ran all over the Patriots and went for over 100 yards each on the ground. When the Titans get AJ Brown and/or Julio Jones back from injury, they will make it much easier for Ryan Tannehill and the Titans offense.

The loss of Derrick Henry has proved to not be as devastating as initially thought. The Titans can still dominate the game on the ground. Jones and Brown will take a lot of the pressure off the rest of the offense.

Patriots Takeaways

Mac Jones is that guy. Jones threw for over 300 yards and completed 71% of his pass attempts. Jones found Kendrick Bourne for two touchdowns, and Jakobi Meyers for just under 100 yards on the game. This was just his second 300 yard game of his rookie season.

The defense continues to dominate, and they continue to force turnovers. A four turnover game helped the Patriots win by a big margin. JC Jackson and Matthew Judon continue to anchor the defense and show no signs of slowing down.
