No. 2 Michigan is facing off against No. 13 Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game this Saturday at 7:00 pm CST in Indianapolis, IN. Michigan is coming off a huge win against Ohio State to put them into this game. Iowa is coming off a win against Nebraska.

Michigan has the most Big Ten Championships with 42 and the last year they won was 2004. Iowa only has 11 Big Ten Championships and were co-winners in 2004 with Michigan. Since the start of the Big Ten Championship Game in 2011, Michigan has never made it to the Championship game and Iowa has gone once and lost to Michigan State.

What’s at Stake?

Iowa does not have too much at stake for the game but just being able to finally win the Big Ten Championship. Iowa is looking to put their name back on the map after starting the season so hot but kind of falling off with the two losses. Michigan on the other hand, has a lot to play for during this game. The most obvious one is that if they win this game then they are going to be in the College Football Playoffs for the first time. The other thing is to win their first Big Ten Championship game and to solidify their season. Huge things are at stake for Michigan and Iowa is looking to spoil any thought of that.

Players to Keep An Eye On

Iowa has two great defensive players that will need to have great games to be able to win this game. Dane Belton (Defensive Back) and Jack Campbell (Linebacker) have had great seasons and are looking to extend that into this championship game. Belton leads the team in interceptions with five and has the most passes defended on the team. Campbell has the most tackles on the team with 121 and adds one sack to the list. These defensive players will need to have great games to keep Iowa in this game.

Michigan has two players that need to continue to have great seasons and one is offense while the other is on offense. Hassan Haskins (Running Back) and Aidan Hutchinson (Defensive End) will have to both play as they did against Ohio State. Haskins has 1,232 rushing yards and is coming off a game with 169 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Hutchison has 13 sacks on the season which is the third in the country. He also has 3 sacks against Ohio State. Both will have to continue their dominance against Iowa if they want to have another statement game.

Final Thoughts

Michigan is coming off the biggest win of their season and is riding high and is playing for a lot more than Iowa is. They will still have to play their best football if they want to be able to dominate this game. Iowa will have to come out strong and have the best offensive game they have had all year. This is one of the best tests for their defense and will have to play like they did to start the season.
