Alabama Vs Georgia SEC Championship game recap. Despite the score, it was a battle by both teams. Alabama came out victorious, defeating Georgia 41-24.
Georgia lost their first game of the season. Both teams gave it their all, but unfortunately, Alabama overpowered Georgia. Alabama came out differently than last week. In the beginning, it was a defensive battle before Georgia marched down the field to the Alabama 11 yard line, with Jack Podlensy kicking a 38-yard field goal for the score of 3-0.
Beginning in the second quarter, Georgia scored a touchdown to keep the lead 10-0. After that, Georgia’s defensive line struggled to stop Alabama’s powerful offense. Alabama’s passing game was strong, coming up with big plays.
For Georgia on the first play of the second quarter, Stetson Bennett connected with Darnell Washington for the touchdown 10-0, which was his first touchdown as a Bulldog. After that touchdown, Alabama threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to score. Alabama’s next offensive drive Bryce Young passed the ball to John Metchie, scoring another touchdown to go up 14-10 with 9:46 left in the first half.
Georgia’s defense stood tall on Alabama’s next possession, holding them to a 33-yard field goal. Will Reichard made the field goal helping Alabama keep the lead 17-10. With 2:06 left in the first half, Georgia scored again, tying the game 17-17 on Ladd McConkey’s 32-yard touchdown run.
Alabama receives the ball back, marching downfield 75 yards, and with 26 seconds remaining in the first half, Bryce Young ran 11 yards for the touchdown to go up 24-17.
Beginning of the second half, Alabama scored again. Bryce Young threw a 55-yard pass to Jameson Williams moving up 31-17. Next, Georgia offensive possession, Stetson threw an interception returned 42 yards for a touchdown-38-17.
Georgia struggled to score in the second half. With 9:42 left in the game, Stetson passed the ball to Brock Bowers for an 18-yard touchdown on a screen pass-score 38-24.
Alabama kicked a 41-yard field goal with 1:59 left, 41-24.
For Georgia- Stetson Bennett ended with 340 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Brock Bowers caught ten passes for 139 yards. Lewis Cine had seven tackles.
The Bulldogs allowed 41 points.
Bryce Young ended the night with 421 passing yards, 40 rushing yards. DeMarcco Hellams had nine tackles.
Georgia had 340 yards passing, 449 total yards, and 109 rushing yards. Alabama had 421 passing, 536 total yards, and 115 rushing yards.
In conclusion, Alabama and Georgia both came out ready to play. The score and stats do not display both teams’ hard work put in. Georgia and Alabama left their hearts on the field, giving it their all, but in the end, Alabama overpowered Georgia to take the victory winning the SEC Championship Title.
Georgia and Alabama both await to see who they face next in the College Football Playoff with both teams earning another game.
