Abu Dhabi FP3: Lewis Ahead of Max

Lewis and Max

Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes on top in the last practice session of 2021. Mercedes were performing better than the Red Bull in FP3 of Abu Dhabi GP. Just 0.214s separated Hamilton and Verstappen in P2.

Valtteri Bottas was on third with the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez in fourth. Mercedes were using the soft tyres whereas Red Bull drove with the mediums for the majority of the session.

Lando Norris pulled his McLaren in P5 with Yuki Tsunoda behind him. The AlphaTauri drivers maintaining their form with Gasly in P7.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc had their Ferraris in P8 and P10 respectively. Splitting them was the other McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo.

Lance Stroll who will be entering his 100th Grand Prix this weekend was just outside the top ten. His teammate, Sebastian Vettel behind in P16.

Max also spent some time in the garage while his mechanics worked on his rear wing which was facing reliability issues. After coming out on the softer compounds, he locked up at Turn 6 – the corner where few drivers met the same fate. He also had to back out from next flying lap as he had a moment at the newly made Turn 9.

Title contender, Lewis Hamilton got a new exhaust – 5th of his season out of the 8 allowed. This means no penalty will be handed over to the seven-time world champion. However, another incident of FP3 may cause a little stir.

Just after coming out of the pits, Hamilton was driving slowly which hindered the flying Mazepin. Though Hamilton tried to move aside, he was still in the Russian’s way. Mazepin managed to save them both from a collision.

This kind of incident had also happened last week during FP3. And then Lewis was given a reprimand. If he gets another reprimand now, he’ll be given a ten place grid drop come race day.

Rears were heating up, let’s see who will ace a lightning qualifying..
