The entire NBA has been entering players into the covid 19 health and safety protocols the past few days.
The Celtics have joined the health and safety parade by adding Jabari Parker, Al Horford, Grant Williams, and Juancho Hernangomez. Obviously, we wish them good luck and health if they have tested positive for the virus.
But let’s also analyze how this affects the Celtics.
Al has been a great addition to this Celtic team. After some skepticism due to his contract and age, Horford has brought a veteran leadership that this roster desperately needed. He is averaging about 12/8/4 this season. Now it’s not stellar on paper, but his affect on the game is noticeable, and his teammates rave about him. The Celtics could struggle defensively specifically in the paint without Horford.
Grant Williams has proved a lot of doubters wrong after he was less than impressive his sophomore season. He has been one of the absolute best three point shooters this season. Williams is shooting 45% from behind the three point line on more than three attempts a game, the perfect player to put around Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. The Celtics will have to make up for Williams’ production on the court with players like Aaron Nesmith or Romeo Langford.
These are the two players the Celtics will really miss, especially if they miss more than a few games. Horford’s court presence is not replaceable. Ideally, Grant Williams has no sort of fall-off on his game once he returns from missed time.
Parker and Hernangomez
These two have not seen a lot of minutes this season, aside from the end of blowout games. The Celtics really won’t miss much with these two gone.
Let’s hope that the Celtics don’t have an outbreak and that this is as bad it will get for them.
