What’s On The Table?

Western Kentucky

Bailey Zappe has emerged as the top quarterback in college football this year, statistically speaking. Zappe has thrown for 5,545 yards, and 56 touchdowns so far this year. Which puts him just in reach for a couple of FBS records, including Joe Burrow’s 60 touchdown season with LSU in 2019. Zappe is coming off a near 600 yard passing game agasint UTSA in the C-USA championship game. Another game like this, and we could see Zappe break another record, which is the passing yards in a season record held by B.J. Symons with 5,833 yards in 2003.

Appalachian State

On the other hand, Appalachian State is looking for their seventh straight bowl win, and can be done so by their great defense. The biggest question is if the Mountaineer secondary can really stop Zappe, and get the job done. Although this will be a test unlike any before. The App State offense is pretty decent too, but as flashy as WKU’s. Led by quarterback Chase Brice, the Mountaineers offense is putting up 34.2 PPG, and also putting up 187.7 rushing yards per game, as a run first team.

Western Kentucky will be no different with the play calling as it has been working for them all year. Zappe will record 300+ yards and 3+ TD’s. Meanwhile star receiver Jerreth Sterns will record 150+ yards and a score. Chase Brice will try and lead App State on an offensive spree himself, by recording a a rushing touchdown of his own. But it won’t be enough as Bailey Zappe and the Hilltoppers pull off the upset by a couple of points.
