The Patriots Look To Bounce Back Against The Jaguars

In week 17, the Patriots will welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars and look to bounce back and regain some momentum before the postseason approaches. Coming off back-to-back losses to the Colts and the Bills, the Pats are in desperate need of a win this week.

Their matchup could not be more favorable this week. The Jaguars are 2-13, and they also have 16 players on the covid list this week.

The Patriots need this win this week, they have lost the AFC and AFC East lead in just two weeks. They just have not looked like the same team as they were when they went on their win streak. How can they reestablish their dominance?

Establish the Run Game

In their last three games, the Patriots have rushed for 150 yards per game. That is very good for the Patriots, and that is not what their problem has been these past two games.

But, they need to keep this up. They need to be able to run the ball, making their offense more versatile. Defenses can’t focus in on the passing game if the team can run for 150 yards.

Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson will both be active for this week’s game. They compliment each others styles very well. When they can both pick up yardage, the Patriots run game is lethal.

Mac Jones

Mac Jones has looked like a rookie the past two weeks. He is obviously a rookie, but you can’t be successful and play like a rookie in the NFL.

Jones threw for less than 60% completion in the past two weeks, something he only did twice previously this season. He needs to stay comfortable in the pocket, that is a big reason he was so successful most of the season.

Every rookie hits a wall, Jones needs to figure out how to climb over it and carry the Pats to the playoffs. He needs to just get his confidence back and make the easy plays.

Patriots Defense

After the past two weeks, the Pats defense needs to really shut down the Jaguars offense. With Matt Judon and Ja’Whaun Bentley on the Covid list, they will need their backups to step up in place of them (if they end up missing the game).

The Patriots defense needs to look dominant against the Jaguars. There is something to prove this game, this defense is legit. Against a 2-13 team they need to play like they are the better team.

Patriots 35 – Jaguars – 10

Mac Jones – 300 yards – 3 TD

Trevor Lawrence – 200 yards – 1 TD
