Bears Rout Giants 29-3, Quinn Sets Record

(Jon Durr/USA TODAY Sports)

The Chicago Bears (6-10) clobbered the New York Giants 29-3, as DE Robert Quinn set the Bears single-season record for sacks with 18.

The 31-year-old Quinn continued his remarkable comeback after finishing with two sacks last season. He broke former Super Bowl MVP Richard Dent’s record of 17.5 sacks set in 1984.

Throughout the game, the Bears dominated the Giants’ offensive line, forcing them to avoid throwing the ball. The score was 14-0 for Chicago after two turnovers from Giants’ QB Mike Glennon in the first two possessions.

The Bears also got their first safety of the season thanks to Angelo Blackson, stopping Giants’ RB Devontae Booker in the endzone. It would not have been possible if it was not for a botched kickoff return.

In the first half, the score was 22-3 in favor of the Bears. The Giants (4-12) have been outscored 76-0 in the final two minutes of the second quarter this season.

It was another brutal game for Glennon. He was 4-11 with 24 passing yards, two interceptions, and two lost fumbles.

Chicago’s RB David Montgomery and WR Darnell Mooney each had good fantasy games. Montgomery rushed for 64 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Mooney had seven receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown.

Giants’ RB Saquan Barkley rushed for 102 yards— the most for him since 2019 — in his first game in Chicago since tearing his ACL and MCL against the Bears on Sept. 20, 2020.

This was also not a good look for Giants Head Coach Joe Judge, who played too conservatively while down by multiple scores. Recent reports suggested that Judge’s job will be safe, but after this game, it could be up in the air.

This matchup is the sixth loss by 20 or more points for New York under Judge. The Giants only had six from 2015 to 2019 under four different head coaches.

Rumors surrounding Bears’ Head Coach Matt Nagy suggest he might be fired after the end of the season despite having the support of his players. Those rumors certainly did not affect his team today.

If it is the end for Nagy, this would have been his final home game.
