Zegras, 11 Points in Nine Games, Led All Rookie Players.

Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks was named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for December after leading all rookies with nine assists and 11 points in nine games (2-9-11).

The honor went to Zegras, who beat off Florida Panthers center Anton Lundell (4-4-8 in 9 games), Nashville Predators left wing Tanner Jeannot (3-5-8 in 10 games), and Detroit Red Wings teammates Lucas Raymond (1-6-7 in 9 games) and Moritz Seider (1-6-7 in 9 games).

Six of Zegras’ nine December appearances resulted in points, including a four-game streak to start the month that included three straight multi-assist performances (Dec. 1-6) and his ‘alley-oop’ assist that went viral and drew social media reaction (Dec. 7 at BUF).

The Calder Memorial Trophy

Zegras is a runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy, but he has competition among many other rookies who have their eyes set on the trophy as well. Following Mathew Barzal, Artemi Panarin, and Patrick Kane, Zegras, the ninth overall choice in the 2019 NHL Draft, became the fourth rookie in the previous 25 years to earn multiple helpers in three consecutive games.

Zegras’ Stats

To clarify, the 20-year-old has played a total of 30 games and has 25 points as of now. So for the Ducks, Zegras is second in goals, assists, and points. With eight goals he is behind Troy Terry, who has a high score of 18 goals. The rookie has 17 assists and is only three behind the captain, Ryan Getzlaf. Because of Duck’s left-wing, Rickard Rakell, and Sonny Milano, the Anaheim Duck has become a key player and facilitator on one of the league’s most underrated lines.

Furthermore, Zegras joins Seider (October) and Raymond (November) as “Rookie of the Month” winners this season. With three shootout goals in 2021-22, Zegras shares the lead among all players (rookie or veteran). He is the first Ducks player to be named “Rookie of the Month”, after goaltender John Gibson who was in 2015, and Anaheim’s first skater right-wing, Bobby Ryan, in January 2009.
