Sue Bird Returning For 2022 WNBA Season

Seattle Storm social media announced that franchise great Sue Bird will return to the team. Bird is entering her 19th season in the league. Many felt the elimination game against the Phoenix Mercury in the playoffs was the final time she be on the court competitively. The crowd chanted one more year, and Bird is happy to oblige.

Where She Stands In History

Below are some of Bird’s statistics and historic achievements:

549 games played – most in WNBA history

17,262 minutes played – most in WNBA history

3,048 assists – most in WNBA history

945 three pointers – second most in WNBA history behind her best friend Diana Taurasi

19 seasons – WNBA record

12 All-Star selections – yup you guessed it, that’s a record too

Five time gold medalist – only her and Taurasi have accomplished that feat in USA basketball history, male or female

Four time WNBA champion – tied with Seimone Augustus, Cynthia Cooper, Maya Moore, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson for most all time

Four time FIBA World Cup gold medlaist – most of anyone male or female

Seattle Storm all time leading scorer

Championship Or Bust

This is probably it for the one of the greatest to ever do it. Seattle made some moves the last couple of seasons to reload and add more pieces. We’ll see if the Storm go all in again in an attempt to send their greatest player ever out in style.
