With their win, tonight against the San Antonio Spurs 111-96, the New York Knicks won six out of their last nine games. New York becomes one game under .500 by young star RJ Barrett who had team-high 31 points and got four assists. San Antonio got led by Dejounte Murray, who had team-high 24 points and five assists.
Every starter for New York scored in double-digits except for Julius Randle. Randle scored only two points shooting one for seven. The Knicks forward also played the most minutes for the Knicks with 24 minutes. Evan Fournier scored 18 points in return after being out two days against Boston. Off the bench, Immanuel Quickley contributed with 12 points and six assists.
Dejounte Murray led the Spurs with 24 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Jakob Poeltl did his part with another double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds. Keita Bates-Diop returned to the starting lineup to add just four points shooting 33% off six shots. San Antonio shot 27.6% from the three-point line and 41.1.% from the field.
San Antonio Never Led In The Second Half
The largest lead of the game for the Spurs in the second quarter was eight points at the 7:30 mark. But four minutes later, the game got tied at 41 all. San Antonio never got the led back. New York managed to get an 11 point, but the Spurs made that lead down to seven to finish the third quarter 82-75. Fournier and Barrett each had 10 points in the third quarter. The last time the game had tied was when the game was 55 all; then Alec Burks hit two free throws to take the lead.v
Knicks Take Full Control In The Fourth Quarter
RJ Barrett started the fourth quarter with a small 5-0 run, but that small run turned into an 18-2 run by the Knicks to control the game entirely. The ball movement by New York was vital when they scored 18 points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. Another critical factor was the defense for the Knicks and not letting the Spurs score 100 points. After the 18-2 run, New York finished the game strong and won 111-96. The Knicks shot 63.2% from the field in the fourth quarter.

Everybody got involved tonight for the Knicks, and when Randle didn’t have an open shot, he swung the ball and looked for the open shot. That was significant in the 18-2 run in the fourth quarter. New York will look to get back to .500 on Wednesday against the red hot Dallas Mavericks, who are on a six-game winning streak.
Spurs Fall 10 Games Under .500
It was another learning lesson for the Spurs tonight, but they got too comfortable in the second quarter with their eight-point lead. The good news is they will have a great chance of getting their second win of 2022 against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
New York will host Dallas on Wednesday.
San Antonio will return home to take on Houston on Wednesday.
