Calvin Ridley and the Falcons may be heading for a break up during the offseason. Ridley has not played since week five due to mental health reasons. With the trade of Julio Jones, Ridley was set to become WR1 for Atlanta. Things now seem very uncertain for the talented wideout and the team that desperately need his services. If he is in fact on the move, who should be in the mix for him? Here are the three teams that probably have the best chance of landing him.
Las Vegas Raiders
While Hunter Renfrow is great in the slot, it’s become clear from the regular season finale that he is drawing double teams now. Same with Waller. Zay Jones and Bryan Edwards have done some good work for them as outside threats. But they need someone who can take it to that next level. Henry Ruggs was going to be that guy but we all know that story. Ridley, Renfrow, and Waller together? Yes please.
It’s unclear who the Jags number one option is right now. Marvin Jones had a somewhat disappointing year and it getting older. Duval has some good developing pieces but need that established talent.
There is no solidified number two receiver behind Michael Pittman. Zach Pascal is good, but not good enough to fully take the pressure off of Pittman. Having a 1a and 1b on the outside would keep AFC South defensive coordinators up at night. The Colts will most likely have one of the best chances cap space wise to land him and make it work long term.
Could Other Teams Come Out Of Left Field?
The Patriots would be a good spot for him, but this isn’t in their DNA. Same with the Jets. Plus, Ridley will likely have a say of where he wants to go. So in the grand scheme to things, we could all be completely wrong of where we think he’ll end up. These names do make sense because of the recent commitments to try to improve the offense. The Eagles may be a dark horse team to watch in that regard.
With the Colts recently drafting Johnathan Taylor and Pittman, and trading for Carson Wentz, the Jaguars trying to build around Trevor Lawrence, and the Raiders desperate after missing on Ruggs and Antonio Brown, these three teams should be viewed as the front runners. But as we all know, anything can happen in the NFL.
