The Bulls dominate against the Pistons to win the season series. Chicago’s margin of victory of 46 points is the biggest in franchise history against the Pistons. These teams have played against each other 272 times. Since 2015, the Bulls scored above 125 points against the Pistons for the first time.

Nikola Vucevic led the Bulls with team-high 22 points and got eight rebounds. DeMar DeRozan was near a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Chicago finished the game shooting 54.3% from the field and shot 52.9% from the three-point line.

Only three players scored in double-digits for Detroit tonight. Josh Jackson with 16 points, Saddiq Bey with 14 points, and Isaiah Stewart with 11 points. Rookie star Cade Cunningham struggled, shooting 3 for 11, which resulted in 8 points.

Another Chicago Slow Start

Once the rookie Ayo Dosunmu entered the game in the first quarter, the Bulls went from losing 10-5 to winning the first quarter, 28-27. Dosunmu brought the energy that got needed for Chicago to avoid the upset. DeMar DeRozan got the Bulls back in the lead and one to finish the first quarter of 28-27. Dosunmu finished the quarter with 8 points and was also off the bench; Troy Brown Jr had three steals to help the Bulls get back the lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Bulls shot much better, making 12 out of their 18 shots and taking a nine-point lead at halftime.

Bulls Take Full Control In the Third Quarter

Chicago came out of halftime with a dominating 17-0 run to take complete control of the game. The Pistons got their first two points of the third quarter by a Cade Cunningham driving dunk at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter. Also, the third quarter was so great for Chicago that Vucevic outscored the Pistons 16-12 in the entire third quarter. Chicago won the quarter 36-14. That defined the rest of the game.

In the fourth quarter, with seven minutes left, the entire starting lineup for the Bulls was out of the game. Chicago did get another 36 points to get the massive win against the Pistons and win the season series. The final score was 133-87. In the first two matchups, the Bulls scored below 100 points.

Final Thoughts

Bulls Get Win Before Big Time Matchups

This game was the kind of game was needed for the Bulls after losing their biggest winning streak of the season at nine games. Everybody got involved, but Ayo Dosunmu getting subbed in the game early and bringing that energy will be a must-have against the Nets and Warriors. Especially with Alex Caruso not being expected to play against the Nets, but possibly against the Warriors.

Another Learning Lesson For the Pistons

The Pistons now become 4-3 in the new year of 2022. But this loss will hurt Detroit. But they must turn their attention now to their matchup against the Raptors on Friday. Cade Cunningham must become more active if this team wants more wins in the future.
