2022 NBA Rookie Ladder

The 2021 NBA draft gave the NBA one of the deepest group of quality rookies in a long time. Rookie of the Year will be a tight race this season with a plethora of qualified candidates.

1. Evan Mobley F Cleveland Cavaliers

No rookie has been more responsible for their team’s success than Evan Mobley. He has the Cavs back in the playoff picture after 3 straight losing seasons. The Cavs have a losing record in games Evan Mobley has missed and has a top 5 record in the east when he plays. Mobley is already one of the best defenders in the NBA, leading all rookies in blocks with 1.7 per game, and contributing offensively with 14.8 points per game. Evan Mobley also leads all rookies in rebounds with 8.1 per game.

2. Scottie Barnes F Toronto Raptors

Scottie Barnes being drafted at 4th overall surprised some people, but he is proving he deserved that selection and much more. Barnes is one of the most versatile players in the NBA and can do it all. Scottie Barnes ranks 5th among rookies in points with 14.7 per game, 4th in assists with 3.5 per game, and 2nd in rebounds with 8 per game. Barnes also demonstrated his defensive ability as he ranks 2nd in blocks with 1 per game and ranks 3rd in steals with 1 per game. Scottie Barnes is the only rookie to rank top 5 in every category.

3. Cade Cunningham G Detroit Pistons

The 2021 1st overall pick started the season poorly, largely due to the preseason injury he sustained. Well Cade Cunningham has finally emerged and has been on fire of late. Cunningham is tied for 1st among rookies in points per game with 15.7. Cade Cunningham has shown why so many scouts loved his passing ability as he ranks 2nd among rookies in assists with 5.4 per game.

4. Franz Wagner F Orlando Magic

Many Magic fans were expecting Jalen Suggs to be the future face of the franchise, but Franz Wagner had other plans. Franz Wagner is already the Magic’s 2nd best player and is tied in 1st among all rookies in points per game with 15.7. Wagner is a great 2-way player as he ranks 4th among rookies in steals with 1 per game.

5. Josh Giddy G Oklahoma City Thunder

Josh Giddy continues to prove the Thunder right with their high draft selection. Giddy is one of the best passers in the NBA as he leads all rookies in assists with 6.4 per game. Giddy is also a decent defender as he ranks 4th in steals with 1 per game.
